Homeowner guide
Here's a call we get weekly: 'Our dryer is dying — loads take two full cycles now. Should we replace it?' Nine times out of ten the dryer is fine. The vent behind it is not — and the difference is a service call versus an appliance purchase.
A dryer works by moving hot air through wet laundry and pushing the resulting moisture outside through the vent. Heat is only half the equation — if moist air can't leave, it recirculates, humidity in the drum stays high, and clothes tumble in warm steam instead of drying. The heating element can be perfect and the dryer will still fail at its one job.
That's why a blocked vent mimics a dying dryer so convincingly: the symptom (endless drying) looks like weak heat, but the cause is trapped moisture.
The lint screen catches a fraction of what each load sheds; the rest travels into the vent run and settles at every bend and joint. Long runs through basements, walls, and attics — common in bigger Fox Valley homes — clog faster because there's more duct and more turns. Illinois winters accelerate it further: warm moist exhaust hits freezing duct metal, condensation forms, and lint packs into a damp felt that clings hard.
We've pulled transition ducts out of local homes packed completely solid — machines working overtime against a sealed tube, one overheated element away from a genuine fire risk.

A full vent cleaning — machine to exterior termination, rotary brushes plus air tools — restores airflow in under an hour for most homes, and the very next load answers the question. We finish with a camera pass so you see the clear run end to end, and so crushed sections, separated joints, or nesting at the cap get caught rather than papered over.
If the video shows a clean, clear run and drying is still slow, now you genuinely have an appliance problem — and you'll know it for the price of a cleaning instead of a new dryer. Call 630-486-0401; bundle with air duct cleaning and the pair is 15% off through November 30, 2026.
Talk to a real local team about your heating, cooling, or indoor air problem — no call centers, no runaround.
