Homeowner guide
Ask three companies how often ducts need cleaning and you'll get three sales pitches. Here's the honest version, based on what our cameras actually find inside Fox Valley duct systems.
For a typical northern Illinois home — closed up tight four months a year, heating season moving enormous volumes of air, a pet or two — every three to five years keeps duct systems genuinely clean. That rhythm is grounded in what we see on camera: by year four or five, most systems have rebuilt a visible blanket of dust, dander, and debris along the runs.
Homes that have never had ducts cleaned are a different category. If your house was built in 1995 and the ducts have never been touched, you're not on a maintenance schedule — you're carrying thirty years of accumulation, and the first cleaning is the one that matters most.
This is why we lead with video inspection: the camera goes in before any cleaning is quoted, and you see the actual condition of your runs. Some homes we inspect genuinely don't need cleaning yet — and we say so, because the footage is right there. Others reveal matted buildup, construction debris, or pest evidence that settles the question instantly.
After a cleaning, the after-footage does two jobs: it verifies the work, and it resets your baseline so 'when should we do this again' has a real answer instead of a guess.

Method matters more than frequency. A register-only 'cleaning' with a shop vac is cosmetic — the buildup lives deep in the branch runs and trunk lines. Source-removal cleaning puts the system under negative pressure with a high-powered vacuum, then mechanically agitates every run so debris travels into the sealed collector rather than your living room. Sanitizing the cleaned surfaces finishes the job.
That's the standard we work to on every job, and the before/after video is how you hold us to it. Bundle it with dryer vent cleaning and save 15% — one visit, the whole airflow system handled. Call 630-486-0401.
